Our Veterinarians

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, & care deeply about what we do every day.

Dr. Jen Herzog

Dr. Jen Herzog, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Jen has always enjoyed helping others – especially those of the four-legged and furry variety. As a young child, she once spent hours out in the snow trying to coax a stray dog that had evaded animal control to come in out of the cold. After much patience and persistence, she became the family’s first dog. As Dr. Jen grew older, her interest in medicine and science, coupled with a deep appreciation for the human-animal bond, made a career as a veterinarian a natural choice.

Having grown up in the Twin Cities, Dr. Jen decided to spread her wings a bit and attend college in Ames, IA, where she completed both her undergraduate and veterinary school training at Iowa State University. Clinically, she enjoys the challenge of internal medicine and the puzzle-solving required to figure out what is making a pet sick. She also has a special interest in surgery and the dramatic recovery that can be achieved by simply removing a foreign object that a pet has eaten or closing up a wound.

During Covid, Dr. Jen took some time off to help her children with distance learning. Once the dust settled and things began to return to normal, she was eager to return to full time veterinary care once again, and when presented with the opportunity to join the River Ridge team, she jumped at the chance.

At home, Dr. Jen lives with her husband and their two sons. The family dog, Kermit, recently suffered a neck injury, but is back to making new friends on every walk he goes on. In her spare time, Dr. Jen loves to travel, work out, read, attend concerts and sporting events, and make memories with her family. She and her husband will soon be crossing an item off their bucket list with a trip to Ireland to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
